ARRANGING SONGS FOR ACAPELLA

This course will explore a number of ways of harmonising songs, with reference to different song styles and origins.
We shall explore these ideas by listening to examples and trying out various ideas in groups. The course is for anyone who wants to arrange songs for acapella; you don't have to be a workshop leader. It is suitable for those who have no experience of arranging songs as well as for those who want to improve their skills and it will be particularly useful for those who want to try arranging songs without using instruments or written music. There are no entry requirements, and you don't need to be able to read music; it is, however, helpful if you are able to hold a harmony on your own in a small group. The course will be very largely practical, with opportunities to try out your skills as well as to share your experiences, ideas and enthusiasm with a group of people who all get a thrill out of creating harmonies.

TEACHING SONGS CLEARLY

This course focuses on methods and skills for teaching songs clearly and confidently. It includes: finding and choosing songs, counting in, keeping the beat, working on rhythm and pitch, breaking songs down into manageable chunks, beginnings and endings, memory aids, useful equipment, awareness of different learning styles and developing your own teaching style. This course is for those who want to teach songs to others, whether it’s in an official, workshop setting or a more informal singing group with friends or colleagues. It’s suitable for those who are just starting out as well as for experienced song teachers who want to develop their skills. There are no entry requirements and you don’t need to be able to read music. The programme is very largely practical, with opportunities to try out your skills as well as to share your experiences and ideas with others who are on a similar quest. Maximum 16 participants.
NB There is no Teaching Songs Clearly training currently scheduled, but contact Singing for Larks if you are interested in this type of workshop or if you would like to organise some mentoring sessions with Faith.

RUNNING YOUR OWN WORKSHOPS

This course looks at all aspects of planning, setting up and running your own singing workshops. The course includes: preparation, publicity, accessibility, resources, developing and respecting your own teaching style, different learning styles, warm ups, finding and choosing songs, evaluation and support. It is suitable for those who already run groups as well as for people who are considering taking this step or who want to share responsibility in a non-led group. There are no entry requirements and you don't need to be able to read music. This short course is very largely practical, with opportunities to try out your skills as well as to share your experiences and ideas with others who are on a similar quest. Places are limited to 16 participants.
