Singing for Larks offers a mentoring scheme for training on both leading workshops and song arranging.

Please contact Singing for Larks if you want to discuss any Leaders' Training,
or your own training needs, with Faith.

LEADING WORKSHOPS

Running your own singing workshops can be wonderfully fulfilling and exciting! It's hard work preparing and running sessions, but you get so much back from the participants that it often doesn't feel like work at all. So, when you find yourself needing some new material, feeling a bit like you've been getting in a rut with your warm-ups, not quite sure what to do about a particular situation in your group, wondering whether the group really likes the way you teach songs… it can feel very disappointing and lonely. It's also inevitable!
We all need support in our work, but it's not always easy to know where to find it!
Faith offers this mentoring scheme to new, as well as experienced, workshop leaders. The sessions focus on your own actual experiences either in a group that you have already been working with, or in a new 'placement' (one that you organise yourself or which Faith will provide or help to set up). Mentoring sessions concentrate on preparing for workshops for this group and reflecting on the workshops afterwards. From this very practical base, more general issues and further individual development is addressed.

SONG ARRANGING

The popularity of harmony singing as a modern leisure activity continues to grow; and for increasing numbers of both workshop leaders and participants, this is leading to an interest, not just in the singing itself, but also in arranging the songs they sing. For some this involves working things out with a piano and manuscript paper, others experiment with multi-track recorders and computers (or several tape recorders all playing at the same time!) and then there are those who 'play' with ideas with a bunch of friends. Whatever your approach (or even if you're still at the stage of wondering how to get started) Faith offers a mentoring scheme where you can develop you're ideas and skills either just with Faith or with a small group of fellow 'arrangers'. The sessions mostly focus on arrangements that you are working on, but they will also include given exercises for trying out particular arranging methods and expanding your repertoire of ideas.

INFORMATION
Each mentoring project is negotiated between Faith and the individual, both in terms of content (focusing on your particular needs) and in terms of practicalities (where and when to meet etc). Mentoring sessions may be 'one to one', or Faith will work with 2 people or a small group. Where possible, a combination of 'one to one' and small group sessions will be offered.

The price depends on the number of people in the mentoring session, the number of sessions being booked and the location.
For example:
One-off, 'one to one' session at Faith's house: £40.00 (1 hour) £60.00 (2 hours)
Series of 6 x 2 ½ hour sessions in a group of 6 people at Faith's house: £80.00

Individuals will need to secure their own funding for the mentoring sessions, though Faith will offer advice and support with funding applications. Reduced rates are sometimes available.
